Since she joined QRS in mid-2017 payroll administrator Jacquie Burrows has yet to see the day when a colleague does not get paid but, she laughs, “if that happened I'd certainly be the first to know”.
“When you are working with people's income you have to get it right and we have around 100 staff to look after so it can be pretty complicated.”
But Jacquie has the experience to take care of the workforce of Wairoa's second-largest employer.
Gisborne born and bred, she cut her teeth on the payroll of a government department then worked in transport until she joined her partner Graeme in Wairoa, living on the sheep and beef farm they bought near Lake Waikaremoana.
“The funny thing is that, of the four of us in the office, three of us live miles out along State Highway 38 so we're on the road for at least 40 minutes morning and night,” she says.
“But they have a great team here so it's totally worth the effort. Every time I hit the road I know I'm going to have a good day.”
