Connecting and growing our communities.
THERE’s a lot of new things in Ian Bramley’s life and he couldn’t be happier.
New grandchildren, new job, and new qualifications. “For me personally, it’s been great coming here at this time in my life,” says the 55-year-old concrete technician.
Ian moved to Wairoa in the mid 90’s and worked at AFFCO for 27 years, most recently as a freezer supervisor. He came over to QRS in 2023 not long after the civil contracting company started a concrete division, ensuring locally-made concrete was available.
“Everyone seems happy and glad to have it back,” says Ian, who this week has poured concrete for driveways, postholes, retaining walls, and house floors.
Ian came to QRS with his Class 2 medium rigid vehicle license. He quickly earned his Class 4 heavy rigid vehicle license ensuring he can operate any of the company’s four concrete trucks. He’s also completed a BCITO Te Pūkenga ConcreteNZ testing and technology course.
Most days Ian operates alongside concrete batching plant operator and son-in-law Daniel Tukaki.
Ian says the onsite relationship works well. Recently, the small team which includes truck drivers and placers, had its readymix concrete certified through the Concrete NZ Readymix Sector Group, giving customers added assurance that QRS’s product meets their needs and specifications.
Outside of work Ian is a hands-on grandfather to Daniel’s two young children, including the latest, born just a few months ago.
When Ian’s not working, he loves watching sport and playing golf at Wairoa Golf Club. The self-described weekend hacker shoots off a 22 handicap and says that it’s “a work in progress”.
