Controlled collapse of Te Reinga Bridge. Watch the video!
Quality Roading and Services and teams of specialised contractors are working to winch the remains of Te Reinga Bridge from out of the river near Ruakituri.
QRS is managing the project to remove the existing bridge and install a temporary Bailey bridge in order to link the Ruakituri community back to Wairoa.
The bridge deck was successfully collapsed into the riverbed on Monday. Specialist dive teams, demolition experts, piling and bridging contractors, and crane and tow truck operators have all been involved. Wairoa District Council is directing the project with guidance from WSP engineers.
QRS construction manager Mike Wilson says the removal of the bridge is a complex project and it is going well. Road closures are in place around the area between 7am and 4.30pm. Mr Wilson thanked the local community for their patience while work continues.
