Earthworks and the reconstruction of some parts of Kotare Bridge No 1 abutments over Mangapoike River continue this week.
The banks on both sides of the bridge scoured out over the past 12 months and QRS was reinforcing the areas when Cyclone Gabrielle hit.
The river came up over 12 metres causing major damage to the approaches and swamping a digger that had already been moved to higher ground. QRS site supervisor Paul Reedy and his construction team are working underneath the bridge to stabilise the abutments.
Earth baskets to strengthen the area will be added and the road pavement will then be rebuilt.
