Meet Siobhan Storey - QRS's new financial controller

STR 1759 Siobhan Storey

“I love Wairoa. I really love Wairoa,” says passionate local and newly promoted QRS staffer 29-year-old Siobhan Storey (Ngati Kahungunu/Ngati Pahauwera). “I enjoy working for QRS. It’s exciting and I love that it’s a local company working for the community”.

As Quality Roading and Services farewells chief financial officer Karen Burger, succession planning means most of the financial portfolio can be picked up by this top performing QRS staffer.

Siobhan Storey will take over a large amount of the financial strategy and reporting tasks previously managed by Karen who finishes this month to take on a new role at Thames-Coromandel District Council.

Siobhan came to QRS in 2015 as a short term contractor. An academic from an early age she’d been studying at Victoria University when her beloved grandmother passed away. Following that sadness, the pull back home was strong and Siobhan returned to Wairoa to help manage the family businesses. “I didn’t know how long for...but I’m still here and I’m really happy about that.”

Bubbly and energetic Siobhan has thrown herself into community life. She is treasurer of Te Hōnonga o Ngā Awa, one of the Tātou Tātou o te Wairoa Kāhui trusts; secretary at Te Rohe o te Wairoa Hunting Club; and a coach at Wairoa Boxing Club. When not at work or helping others, she remains committed to her own health. In 2019 in memory of her grandmother, Siobhan completed the New York Marathon. This year she hopes to step into the boxing ring at a corporate event.

Siobhan is sad Karen is leaving. “Karen isn’t just my boss, she’s a good friend and I will miss her when she’s gone.”
