AUCKLAND’S loss is Wairoa’s gain now that Brandon Hall has joined the Quality Roading and Services team.
Brandon, Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Pūkenga, is back in northern Hawke’s Bay after bearing the brunt of Auckland business closures in the wake of the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The aluminum windows company where he worked managed to stay afloat during the first 2020 lockdown but when Auckland locked down for the second time Brandon and dozens of others were laid off.
“They got us into a meeting and told us. It was last in, first out, so I was gone. After that I ended up doing labouring jobs.”
After his tumultuous year, Brandon joined his whānau at Lake Waikaremoana for Christmas…and never left.
“A few people said give QRS a go. They said good things about it and so I thought, well I might as well join them.”
Since joining the team Brandon has completed his full driver’s license and is now looking forward to getting more operator licenses and qualifications.
“I love this place, and I like that the company is helping me. We’ve already talked about it in my appraisal.”
