Think like James Bond at this year’s EPro8 challenge!

Epro8 think like James Bond

One of this year’s top-secret EPro8 challenges has a James Bond twist organisers have revealed ahead of today's annual Wairoa kids’event.

“We’ve shaken and stirred things up. Students can expect at least one challenge that Agent 007 might come up against,” says EPro08 manager Kelvin Thiele.

The EPro8 Challenge is an epic and creative fun day which pits school teams against each other in engineering and construction challenges. It’s the fourth year the event has come to Wairoa and each year Quality Roading and Services has thrown its support behind it.

Skills in innovation, problem solving, teamwork and communication are needed as teams tackle numerous challenges over the three-hour event hosted at Wairoa College.

Other challenges this year revolve around one of New Zealand’s most loved sports. Another one has a link to home renovation. “I’m not revealing any more details!” insists Kelvin, who despite the secrecy expects Wairoa students to do very well this year.

With support from Quality Roading and Services in 2020, EPro8 supplied each participating school a toolbox of equipment to practice with.

“It’s a treasure chest of 450 parts including wheels, pulleys, gears, joiners, rope, axles and wingnuts. The collection always evokes a level of adrenalin in kids when they see it,” says Kelvin.

Students have been using the equipment all year to make a giant swing, a Mars rover, a flying fox,and other creations via EPro8’s online challenges.

“The students are all used to the equipment now. It will be a real game-changer, so when they come to this month’s competition I’m expecting an increase in the caliber of creations.”

Kelvin says if kids thought the school toolboxes were cool “wait until you see what we bring to the event! The gadgets and mechanisms are so good we have to chase the parents and teachers away!”

Come along and support teams from: Wairoa College, Frasertown, Nuhaka, Ohuka, St Joseph’s, Tiniroto, and Te Mahia Schools, Tiaho Primary School, and Wairoa Primary School.
